Song and Meditations remains an outlier when compared to my other compositions. It is a step away from my usual style of harsh, intense, metal-influenced music in favor of a more upbeat and positive style.
When writing for voice, I have found it particularly difficult to create a piece that is innovative and adventurous in some way but doesn’t sacrifice singability and accessibility to get there. In order to face this problem, I wrote a piece that is unabashedly tonal but possesses musical features not often seen in traditional vocal writing: melodies with large leaps, constant meter changes, improvisation, and no "text"- only wordless syllables.
